Many family relationships allow for a vehicle to be gifted. By gifting a vehicle, there is no tax. For a gift between spouses, parents to children, and children to parents, there is no tax and no inspection needed. In order to gift a vehicle you must have documentation to prove relationship if last names are different. This often includes birth certificates, marriage licenses, etc. Feel free to reach out to us with your specific situation and we are happy to provide additional information.
For a private party sale, you need a bill of sale if the vehicle is newer than 7 years. You will also need one if the state in which the title is issued does not have a spot on it for the selling price. If the vehicle is purchased from a dealer, you must always have a bill of sale, regardless of the year of the vehicle.
